Getting to Know Sarah Zyborska!

….Do you have a nickname?
I don't have a nickname. But I do perform as SERA which is the Welsh spelling of my name. That's the closest I have to a nickname!

Where are you from?
I'm from Caernarfon now living in the place with the long name - Llanfairpwll for short.

What would you name the autobiography of your life?
Hard question! I feel this needs considerable time to think about (which I don't have - ha!) I'll go with my current frame of mind; Making music, Writing Emails, Feeding baby. Sleep. repeat.

What’s something you think everyone should try at least once?
To learn to speak Welsh!

If you could meet anyone, who would you meet?
My favourite artist, Brandi Carlile!

What is the greatest song ever recorded and why?
Impossible question to answer! I'm just going to pick a song by my favourite artist because it's what connects with me; ‘The Story’ by Brandi Carlile. Also had it at my wedding.

What is it about music that sets your heart racing?
For me, it's when a song comes together in the studio. Hearing it come to life with new ideas and instruments. I love nothing more than driving home from the studio having finished a song and turning it up LOUD.

How do you think music can help a community?
In so many ways - music brings people together. Through learning, performing, sharing. From live music at events to using music as a tool to connect with others or express our thoughts. Without it, many of us would struggle to communicate our feelings and it would affect our wellbeing as individuals and communities.

What do you hope to get out of Cornerstones?
I have organised projects before, but I've been to some extent making it up as I go along. Cornerstones is helping me think about the finer details. It's also great to connect with other creative, community minded people. It's often a lonely world being self-employed so it's great to build a community to support each other's ventures.

Music matters to us all because...
…it enables us to truly live and celebrate who we are.

Oes gen ti lysenw?
Does gen i ddim llysenw. Ond rydw i’n perfformio fel SERA sef sillafiad Cymraeg fy enw. Dyna’r peth agosaf sydd gen i at lysenw!

O ble wyt ti’n dod?
Rydw i’n dod o Gaernarfon ond erbyn hyn yn byw yn y ‘lle efo’r enw hir’ - Llanfairpwll.

Beth fyddet ti’n galw dy hunangofiant?
Cwestiwn anodd! Mae angen dipyn go lew o amser i feddwl am ateb (a does gen i ddim – ha ha!) Mi fydd rhaid i mi ddewis beth sy’n mynd drwy fy meddwl ar hyn o bryd; Creu Cerddoriaeth, Ysgrifennu e-byst, Bwydo’r babi. Cysgu. A nôl i’r dechrau!

Beth wyt ti’n gredu y dylai pawb roi cynnig arno o leiaf unwaith mewn bywyd?
Dysgu siarad Cymraeg!

Os byddet ti’n cael cyfarfod unrhyw un o gwbl, pwy fyddet ti’n ddewis ?
Fy hoff artist, Brandi Carlile!

Beth yw’r gân orau a gafodd ei recordio erioed a pham?
Cwestiwn amhosibl i’w ateb! Bydd rhaid dewis cân gan fy hoff artist gan mai dyma sy’n fy nghyffwrdd o ddifrif; ‘The Story’ gan Brandi Carlile. A hefyd mae’n gân a gafodd eich chwarae yn fy mhriodas.

Beth, ynglŷn â cherddoriaeth, sy’n gwneud i dy galon garlamu?
I mi, mae’n digwydd pan fydd cân yn dod at ei gilydd yn y stiwdio. Ei chlywed yn dod yn fyw gyda syniadau newydd ac offerynnau. Does 'na ddim byd gwell na gyrru adref o’r stiwdio ar ôl gorffen cân a’i chwarae’n FYDDAROL o uchel.

Sut wyt ti’n meddwl y gall cerddoriaeth helpu cymdeithas?
Mae 'na gymaint o ffyrdd – mae cerddoriaeth yn dod â phobl at ei gilydd. Drwy ddysgu, perfformio, rhannu. O gerddoriaeth fyw mewn digwyddiadau i ddefnyddio cerddoriaeth fel ffordd o gysylltu gydag eraill neu i fynegi ein meddyliau. Heb gerddoriaeth, mi fyddai llawer iawn ohonon ni’n cael trafferth i gyfleu ein teimladau a byddai hynny’n effeithio ar ein lles fel unigolion ac fel cymdeithas.

Beth wyt ti’n gobeithio ei gael yn Cornerstones?
Rydw i wedi trefnu prosiectau o’r blaen, ond i ryw raddau roeddwn i’n meddwl am syniadau wrth fynd yn fy mlaen. Mae Cornerstones yn fy helpu i feddwl am bethau mewn mwy o fanylder. Mae hefyd yn ffordd ardderchog o gysylltu â phobl eraill greadigol sy’n meddwl am gymdeithas. Mae bod yn hunangyflogedig yn fywyd unig yn aml iawn, felly mae’n wych creu cymuned lle gallwn gefnogi mentrau ein gilydd.

Mae cerddoriaeth yn bwysig i bob un ohonom oherwydd…
…mae’n caniatáu i ni fyw a dathlu pwy ydyn ni o ddifrif.
