….Caban Ogwen

Caban Ogwen saw Community Music Wales partner with Bethesda local venue Neuadd Ogwen, to deliver a large-scale participatory project. The aims were to engage with young people from across Gwynedd and bring them to Neuadd Ogwen for music, dance and drama workshops leading up to a performance at the hall. The theme for the project was the 'Caban Ogwen,' - the story of the slate communities built up around Bethesda, explored and performed through modern day music and dance. The project targeted young people from across the area to enable and support a wider participation in the arts across Gwynedd. We worked with a variety of locally based artists who worked with the young people on various aspects of the activity and supported the young people's perception of their local area. We also partnered with Dawns i bawb who delivered the dance activities with the young people at Neuadd Ogwen. The project was delivered primarily in Welsh, but some aspects were delivered bilingually. Through our community networks, we were able to recruit 91 participants over the year of the project, who participated in different aspects of the project according to their interests. Through their learning about the local history, they worked with the tutors to write their own songs, raps, music and dance pieces to perform over three evenings at Neuadd Ogwen.

Unfortunately, the performances were set to take place at the end of March 2020 just after the first Covid lockdown started, so had to be cancelled. So we commissioned a tutor to pull together the video footage of the rehearsals at Neuadd Ogwen into a video. This project was funded through Arts Council of Wales’s Participation Lottery good causes fund. Please watch the video for a flavour of some of the fantastic work they created.

Caban Ogwen

Diolch i Gaban Ogwen ffurfiodd Cerdd Gymunedol Cymru bartneriaeth â Neuadd Ogwen, canolfan leol ym Methesda, i gyflwyno prosiect cyfranogol ar raddfa fawr. Y nod oedd ymgysylltu â phobl ifanc o bob rhan o Wynedd a dod â nhw iNeuadd Ogwen ar gyfer gweithdai cerddoriaeth, dawns a drama a fyddai’n arwain at berfformiad yn y neuadd. 'Caban Ogwen' oedd thema'r prosiect - sef stori'r cymunedau llechi a dyfodd o amgylch Bethesda, ac archwiliwyd a pherfformiwyd hyn drwy gyfrwng cerddoriaeth a dawns fodern. Roedd y prosiect yn targedu pobl ifanc o bob rhan o'r ardal er mwyn caniatáu a chefnogi cyfranogiad ehangach ganddynt yn y celfyddydau ledled Gwynedd. Buom yn cydweithio ag amrywiaeth o artistiaid lleol a oedd yn gweithio gyda'r bobl ifanc ar wahanol agweddau o’r gweithgaredd ac yn cynorthwyo eu dirnadaeth o'u hardal leol. Ffurfiwyd partneriaeth hefyd â Dawns i Bawb a oedd yn cynnal ygweithgareddau dawns gyda'r bobl ifanc yn Neuadd Ogwen. Cafodd y prosiect ei gynnal yn bennaf yn Gymraeg, ond cyflwynwyd rhai agweddau'n ddwyieithog. Drwy ein rhwydweithiau cymunedol, bu’n bosibl inni recriwtio 91 o gyfranogwyr dros flwyddyn y prosiect, a chymerodd y rhain ran mewn gwahanol agweddau o’r prosiect gan ddibynnu ar eu diddordebau. Trwy ddysgu am hanes lleol, bu’r cyfranogwyr yn gweithio gyda'r tiwtoriaid ar ysgrifennu eu caneuon, rapiau, cerddoriaeth a darnau dawns eu hunain i berfformio dros dair noson yn Neuadd Ogwen.

Yn anffodus, dylai’r perfformiadau fod wedi cael eu cynnal ddiwedd mis Mawrth 2020, yn union ar ôl dechrau’r cyfnod clo cyntaf, felly bu’n rhaid ei ganslo. Oherwydd hyn aethom ati i gomisiynu tiwtor i ddod â’r ffilmiau o’r ymarferion yn Neuadd Ogwen at ei gilydd i greu fideo. Cafodd y prosiect hwn ei ariannu gan gronfa achosion da Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru.Gwyliwch y fideo er mwyn cael blas o’r gwaith tra arbennig a grëwyd.
